Viva Las Vegas! …… The first thing I heard when I landed in Las Vegas, Nevada. As soon as the plane landed Elvis came blaring through the speakers and oh boy was it tacky. Super fitting though and went nicely with the tackiness of the Las Vegas airport. Tacky yes, but also very very very exciting. My first weekend in Vegas and I knew it was going to be a great time. The thing with Vegas is it is so non-stop that you honestly don’t need more than 3 days there. By the end of the weekend I felt like I needed to stay in bed for the next month.
I was lucky, I had gotten flown out by a Vegas Veteran who has spent more time in Vegas than anyone probably should and knows all the secret hot spots. I was put up in the nicest hotel and taken to the nicest restaurants, and so I am here to now share all that wisdom with you!! So without further ado, here is the best way to spend a weekend in Vegas!
Stay at the Cosmopolitan
Ahhhhh the Cosmo, hands down the nicest hotel in Vegas. It’s brand new (relative to the other hotels) and will have your jaw hit the floor when you walk in. Not only is it gorgeous, and not only are the rooms amazing… but it also has the BEST restaurants, a cold press juice bar, and one of the best clubs in Vegas (more on all this below). If you can get a room with a fountain view then I highly recommend doing so!
Food and Drinks
Nothing beats the food in Vegas. You can find anything your little heart desires. I was lucky enough to be in Vegas with someone who knows all the best food spots and could show me the ropes. When in Vegas, don’t settle for crappy food, and don’t be the people that we made fun of waiting in line for subway…. there is a subway everywhere… get something GOOD while you’re there!
Order Room Service
If you took my recommendation and got a room with a fountain view then enjoy it by sitting outside with some amazing room service. Pro tip… if you order a mimosa with breakfast it’ll help with the hangover!
Vegas is known for their wild buffets. The buffet at the Cosmo is known for being one of the best! Honestly, unlimited eggs benny… is there anything else I really need to say??
Cold Pressed Juice
Alright so if throwing back a mimosa first thing in the morning isn’t your first choice for a hangover remedy and you feel like going the healthy route then check out the cold pressed juice bar on the second floor of the Cosmo! Drinking some greens will make you feel a whole lot better about yourself.
In and Out Burger
“Could you be any more basic, Lauren?” *cue a chandler voice*
Probably not…. but whatever. This was my first time trying In and Out and screw you guys, it’s freakin amazing. There is about ten thousand of them along the strip (I think like 3 or 4 actually but you get it). However if you have a car and drive about 2 mins off the strip then you can avoid some awful lines!
This is where going to Vegas with a “Vegas Veteran” comes into play. There is a hidden pizza joint in ….. yup you guessed it, the Cosmo! It’s on the third floor and you can find it by following a long hallway that looks like it would lead to a bathroom. Oh boy oh boy do I love a good slice of Za, but this isn’t just any Za it is THE Za, the SECRET Za… which means it tastes even better. Don`t bother looking on a directory for this place because as the name suggests, it`s a well kept secret and is off the grid!
How many photo’s have you seen of your friends in Vegas? Ok…. now out of those photos how many times have you seen someone walking down the strip with one of those giant booze slushies? Yeah, that is from Fat Tuesday. They have around 15 different flavors of delicious, *and very strong*, vodka or rum based slushies. These are a hangover in a cup but honestly, you gotta have one while you’re in Vegas!
Beauty & Essex
Oh my god… was my life changed forever. First of all this restaurant is found behind a hidden door in a vintage guitar shop… pretty sick. Second of all, the food is out of this world. The food comes out in small shareable portions, so you don’t order your own meal, you just order a bunch of stuff for the table. There was 7 of us (at one point 9 of us) so we got to try a lot of dishes!
Scarpetta is the perfect Italian restaurant. I liked Scarpetta because it was bigger and therefor less crowded than Beauty and Essex and a lot more personal. We were also lucky enough to get a table with a view of the Fountain, whereas in Beauty and Essex there are no windows. The food at Scarpetta was absolutely out of this friggen world. We started with beef carpaccio and the best oysters I have ever had followed up some amazing pasta dishes. The service is also amazing.
Based on my very limited experience I would have to say these two restaurants are a must when in Vegas.
Ok time for the fun part! The clubs and Vegas are insane… and when I say insane I mean INSANE. There is no last call, they don’t ever close and I’m pretty sure they pump enough oxygen into them that it’ll keep you going all night. If your drink starts to get a little low, don’t worry there is someone there to fill it up before you even have to ask, I even had security guards escort me to a private bathroom despite repeatedly telling them that it was fine and I could go to the bathroom alone hahah
Marquee nightclub is the club found in Cosmo (aka my hotel which was extremely convenient). It was an amazing time and the music was out of this world (shout out to Andrew Rayel who killed it). Marquee is also open all day and opens right up which is a ton of fun, especially during summer months.
Hakkasan is the club in the MGM Grand. This club is about 4 times the size of Marquee and is really crazy! The service here is also unlike anything you will ever experience in Toronto or anywhere else. They really know how to make you feel like it was worth the 15k + people drop on a booth there haha
This is the one problem with Vegas. You go there to party and gamble… which doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for fun activities since you’re going to be spending most of your day recuperating from the night before. This trip has however put Nevada on my list of places I want to return to. Next time I go I’d love to get out of Vegas and do some cool hiking! Flying over Nevada opened my eyes to how beautiful it is! However, we did manage to leave the hotel at some points throughout the day (after a whole lot of coffee, ibuprofen and green juices). So here are a few things you can do during the day:
Walk the Strip
This seems obvious but when you’re spending all day super hungover, you may forget to get out and actually go check out all the endless things to see on the strip. If you manage to get out of bed, you will do a lot of walking so bring comfy shoes! There is an unlimited amount of things to see and you’ll always find dozens of street performers.
This was my first time going to a shooting range! It was cool but also really freaky…. if you follow me on Instragam you would have seen the video of me taking my first shot and screaming like a little baby the first time I pulled the trigger (and then everyone proceeding to laugh at me). Still none the less it was a cool experience.
ahhhhh gambling. The last thing on the list that should have been the first. The only reason it’s last is because if you like a good game of black jack or texas hold em’ like I do, then I don’t need to tell you this. Have fun, and be smart! When we there one guy had just lost $3 million USD in blackjack soooooo just know your limit and you’ll be fine. Always go in with the attitude that you’re prepared to lose it all in exchange for a good time and a bunch of free drinks (yeah you drink for free while you gamble.. so take advantage of that hahah)
Alright kids (and by kids I mean those of you who are 21+) that’s all I’ve got for now! As I mentioned, this was my first time in Vegas, so if you have any other suggestions PLEASE let me know in the comments below 🙂
